Following A Previously Unavailable Path To Make An Accident Claim
If you have sustained injuries in an accident through no fault of your own then you will normally have a good idea of where to seek compensation. The history of CICA
CICA, which was set up in 1964, is a non-departmental body that deals with claims from those that have received injuries as a result of violent crime. Previously known as the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Authority is one of the most generous of its kind in the world and has already paid out more than £3 billion in compensation.
Accidental injuries and CICA
In the past CICA has not made payments for injuries that have been received as the result of an accident. In 2007 this changed when a motorcyclist collided with a pedestrian who later died from his injuries. The young boy of 12 was playing chicken on a dual carriageway with several of his friend and tried to run in front of a van, failing to spot the motorcyclist who was overtaking. The motorcyclist was travelling at about 50mph in a 70mph zone, but still had no chance of avoiding the youth.

Not only was a young life tragically ended, but the motorcyclist also suffered serious injury that kept him from working for 3 months. His lawyers successfully argued that by running out into the road whilst playing chicken the boy committed a violent act.
